The best way to know a village is to stay in it. Weeks, not days, until your hosts stop being hosts. Our longest guest stayed 169 nights with one family. When you want a change, work from Yakten, slow down in Gumpadara, and later, Rey. We tell the next family about you before you arrive.

This is how people have always lived. We are learning to live it again.
For most of human history nobody lived alone. You knew who grew your food. You knew the people whose houses you could see. We gave that up quickly, and mostly without noticing. A village still holds it. The air has no traffic in it. The water comes off the hill above the house. You eat what came out of the ground that morning, grown without anything sprayed on it. And you end up in long conversations with people who say what they mean, because a village is too small for anything else. Nobody there calls this wellness. It is just Tuesday.
We are not taking you back. A young woman in Yakten wants a career and a good connection as much as you do. So we are fitting the old way into this one: a village where you hold a client call at eleven and are handed a plate at eight by someone who asks how it went. And it is not only for you. The households, the guides, the cooks and drivers are making a living where they grew up instead of leaving for a city, which is how a village stays alive long enough for anyone to visit it. You are not watching a community. For as long as you are here, you are in it.
We began in Yakten in July 2025 with eight households. Gumpadara opened in August 2026, and Rey is being built now. We set the rooms up to a standard, train the hosts, test the internet and the power, and stay reachable for your help. Nomad Sikkim is an initiative of Sarvahitay, a registered non-profit.
