A simple room. A whole family.
The rooms are clean, warm and well kept: a proper bed, hot water, storage, a desk that works, and a window with trees in it. Most are built from wood cut nearby, so the room smells of it. They are all much alike, and that is the point. What makes your stay is the household around you.
Guests become part of the house.
Evenings gather everyone in one room, guests and families together.
The kitchen is open: didi will put you to work, happily.
You arrive as a guest and leave from the same porch as a friend.
Work in the morning. The village takes the rest.

Before you come.
How do I reach Gumpadara?
Gumpadara is fifteen minutes from Soreng, the nearest town. Get to Soreng and the last stretch is easy.
Take a Wizzride shared cab to Jorethang. From Jorethang, Soreng is one hour by road, and Gumpadara is fifteen minutes from Soreng.
A private taxi from Siliguri, Bagdogra or NJP takes about 3 hours 45 minutes and costs between ₹4,000 and ₹5,000.
Shared taxis run directly to Soreng. From Soreng it is a fifteen minute ride to Gumpadara.

When is the best time to come?
Gumpadara is a year-round village. October to December brings the clearest skies. March to May is spring, when the terraces and the forest are at their greenest. June to September is the monsoon, quiet and very green, with rain-days indoors. January and February are cold, bright and crisp.
How good is the internet, honestly?
Up to 100 Mbps on the main line, with a backup connection on a different network, and power with battery backup behind it. Good enough for a full working day of calls. If your work needs something specific, tell us and we will test it before you commit.
What is the food like?
Sherpa home cooking, made by your host family: thukpa, phaley, reelduk, seasonal vegetables from the farms around you. Tell us what you cannot eat when you write and the family will plan around it.
What should I pack?
Warm layers for the evenings all year, walking shoes for the forest, any medication you need, and a rain shell in the monsoon. Day-to-day things are in Soreng, fifteen minutes away.
I am a foreign national. Anything extra?
A short registration step, which we walk you through before and at check-in. Bring your passport. We and your host family handle the rest with you.
What is expected of me?
This is a home before it is a homestay, in a village that values its quiet. Keep village hours in mind at night, carry your plastic out with you, eat with your family when you can, and come curious. The guests who get the most from Gumpadara are the ones who join in.

Gumpadara opened on 6 August 2026, built with its six host families and backed by the Soreng district administration under DC Shri Dhiraj Subedi, and blessed on the day by MLA Shri Aditya Golay.
